About Barrica Wines:
Barrica wines is founded, owned and run by wine connoisseur Jane Cuthbertson in 2006. Jane first became interested in wine after experimenting in home winemaking and then going to work for a local homebrew supply company. From there she went on to study wine at local colleges and Liverpool University.
After spending some time managing the Wine and Spirits departments for a local family supermarket in Clitheroe and Preston, Jane eventually set up her own wine merchants business, Barrica Wines in 2006 using her 16 years' knowledge of the industry. As well as coordinating tastings, Jane works with independent clients, providing a bespoke wine selection service which she delivers personally in the local area.
When Jane isn’t in the Barrica Wine Store at Huntleys, she spends much of her time hosting wine tastings for dedicated wine societies, fund raising groups and private parties. She has also worked for restaurants training staff, hosting dinner tastings and helping them source the best wines to complement their menus.
Jane recently began to import wine from three estates in the South of France. Jane says: "Some of the wines from the Domaine La Croix Belle are listed by Gordon Ramsay and Raymond Blanc. This producer has been voted the eighth greatest Vin De Pays producer and has been accredited for being environmentally friendly." If you would like any advice about organic wines, please contact us.
The Barrica Wine Store at Huntleys Farm has gone from strength to strength. In 2009 they were a finalist in the New Zealand Wine Independent Wine Retailer of the Year. In 2010 Barrica has gone one step further on Tuesday 2nd February 2010 Barrica Wines were awarded the title of UK Independent Wine Retailer of the Year - judged on their range, expertise, enthusiasm and customer service.
This award was sponsored by Wines of Argentina, and as part of her prize Jane flew to Argentina on 20th February, to spend a week as the guest of Wines of Argentina, visiting vineyards and attending the Argentina Wine Awards. Jane is now passionate about Argentinean wine and aims to make Barrica the leading UK authority for Argentinean wine.
Jane is assisted by a fantastic team of wine enthusiasts. Store manager Sue Holroyd has 20 years experience in the industry and is also qualified with the WSET.
Barrica Wine Store's easy to find as we are on the A59 in Samlesbury, Lancashire. As we are close to junction 31 of the M6 we are easily accessible from Manchester, Bolton, Lancaster, Blackpool, Preston, Blackpool and Clitheroe.
