Barrica Wines Organic Week 12th – 19th June 2010

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Barrica Wines first ever Organic Week is coming round fast now and we are getting a lot of interest. If you haven’t bought your tickets yet and want to get some, we do still have tickets left for every night, so you are not too late, just drop us an email or call the shop.

To the best of our knowledge this is the first time anything like this has been held in the UK, and with 3 special international guests throughout the week it should be a very special and entertaining occasion.

At Barrica we stock 86 organic products in our range – these are mainly wines but do include a few beers and spirits. It is important to stress, however that every product has been chosen for Barrica’s range because I consider it to be an extremely good product – not solely because it is organic.

Organic wines have a much lower sulphite level than most wines and many people believe this makes them more suitable for people with asthma or respiratory problems. It is also this low sulphite level which has given organic wines a reputation for providing much gentler hangovers! So come along, try them – and see what you think.

It is difficult to recommend which will be the best night to join the celebrations as each event is going to have a personality all of its own.

Tuesday night will be an informal wine tasting Bernard Robin, Export Manager, Vina Ijalba, in the the Rioja region of Spain. Tickets are £7.50 per person.

Wednesday and Thursday night are both 4 course dinners with around 7 wines to enjoy throughout the meal, starting with a glass of fizzy on arrival. Both nights are £40 per person and I can promise they will be extremely entertaining.

Wednesday night will have an Austrian twist to the food as we sample wines from Meinklang. Werner Michlits junior is the wine maker at Meinlang, so this will provide is a rare opportunity to sit down with a highly respected wine maker in an intimate group to discuss his wines and share his stories.

Thursday night will have a Catalan theme with wines from Albet I Noya. Joseph Jove is an extremely entertaining personality and according to the 2010 Penin Guide Albet I Noya has the best graded cellar in the D.O Penedes.

Friday night is Party night when all three of our special hosts will be joining us. Each of our Spanish guests believes that their region of Spain is the best and I have no doubt that they will both be trying to persuade you of this throughout the night! There will be some authentic entertainment and you are guaranteed of a lively and extremely fun night, with plenty of wines to taste. Tickets are £25 per person, but if you have already been to two of our previous events you can join us on party night free of charge.
