Wine Tasting Dinners
- We are, and have been for some time, avid fans of the wine tasting evenings that Jane has organised. They are an event not to be missed and her guest speakers - wine producers - from all over the world, impart a wonderful insight into the wines they produce.
Jane's knowledge and advice when choosing wines is second to none and the choice is quite remarkable.Lesley Davies
Wine Tasting Foundation Day
- Ever felt intimidated when walking into a wine shop and haven't a clue what to ask for. We've probably all been there if we're honest. Well, help is at hand. I can think of no better way of overcoming those fears than by attending one of Barrica Wine's foundation courses. Co-hosts Kevin and Jane really do have a winning formula that makes these events not only extremely interesting and informative, but superbly informal and friendly.
What really did it for me was the coming together of like-minded people in such a relaxed atmosphere where I never once felt out of place. It has boosted my confidence no end. An absolute must for both wannabee wine enthusiasts, or for those who just want a better appreciation of the intriguing world of wine.Keith Bond
- The ethos of Barrica Wines is very simple; Jane Cuthbertson, who is passionate about wine, extremely knowledgeable on the subject and who has travelled extensively sampling wines never found in the high street, brings the best of those wines into her wine shop to allow mere mortals like us the pleasure of tasting and enjoying them.
Jane is very approachable, doesn't make you feel inferior when it comes to wine knowledge and whenever you visit the shop, is more than happy to recommend a wine for you. It might be based around your favourite tastes, or to compliment a meal you are preparing.
The wine foundation course is a wonderful extension of this and is carried out in a relaxed style within a local hotel or restaurant, where the approach is one of lets enjoy the day and learn a little something about wine along the way. No wine course would be complete without sampling as you go along, so listen up in the morning because as the day goes on, you seem to remember less, but enjoy more!
My wife and I now attend many of the "out of shop" activities that Jane organises, and although we still don't profess to be wine buffs, we certainly have tried some stunning wines whilst enlarging our social circle with like minded people, we now call friends.
Give it a go, there is no "click" mentality here, just a willingness to pass on some knowledge about wine."
Wine Tasting Country Days
- "After attending the Barrica Wine Foundation courses, I realised there was so much more to wine than I had ever imagined. What next, I heard myself saying. No way was I going to leave it at that. Armed with this newly acquired passion, I again turned to Barrica Wines who introduced me to the concept of 'Country Days', the idea being to experience the different regions and countries of the world.
What a revelation! It all started in Italy (well, the wines did anyway ! ! !) where we were introduced to a fantastic range of grape varieties, several of which I had no idea existed, let alone tasted. Some absolutely stunning wines, many of which now taking pride of place in my cellar (that's a pseudonym for ' my garage' by the way). Since Italy, we have travelled afar to Argentina and Portugal to name but a few. A journey that has already provided some truly memorable moments. Simply amazing.
