Each month we choose one of our special wine-makers as our Wine-Maker of the Month.

This gives them a chance to tell you a little about their wines, where they are made and offer you some tantalising promotions to give you the opportunity to try their wines during the month. Check back each month to view our latest savings. February's Wine-Maker of the Month is Painted Wolf Wines.

Painted Wolf Wines

Painted Wolf Wines is a dynamic, innovative South African wine company. We are dedicated to the production of distinct, authentic wines, the conservation of African wild dogs and their habitat and the building of a community which share similar interests and values.

Founded by Jeremy and Emma Borg, drawing inspiration from the African Wild Dog, our own Painted Wolf pack is a community of talented individuals who bring the best available grapes, technical and practical skills to Painted Wolf Wines.

We are primarily interested in the production of wines with a distinctive South African feel, and to that end have an emphasis on wines crafted from Chenin Blanc and Pinotage – the two benchmark South African grape varieties. We also vinify other varieties, with a special interest in Shiraz. We pride ourselves on our focused energy and relentless determination, living the Painted Wolf mantra of being 'Persistently remarkable, remarkably persistent'.

We actively support the conservation of African Wild Dogs. Funds from every bottle sold go towards the research and conservation of this intriguing, beautiful but highly endangered species – successful long term conservation of African Wild Dogs is only possible where large tracts of wilderness still exist…

Borg family wines - Shiraz 2006

Guillermo Pinotage 2009

Lekanyane White

A rich, vibrant white 'Cape blend', has a bouquet of pineapple, lime, vanilla and a sophisticated minerality which follow through onto the palate and is complimented by a creamy long fresh finish. The wine is drinking well now, but will improve by further bottle age for a year or two. I recommend the wine with full flavoured fish, chicken and pork dishes such as linguine with prawns, baby tomatoes and fennel, or with a creamy Thai style coconut chicken curry. the den - Chenin Blanc 2010

An elegant full bodied wine with tropical flavours of creamy pineapple, melon and vanilla. The wine has a lovely texture with a long finish with enough acid to keep it really fresh and vibrant. The wine has been sealed with a screw cap to maintain its freshness. The Den Chenin Blanc is delicious on its own. The wine has tons of flavours and is just off-dry so it's a versatile partner for many different dishes. Price: £8.50 5% discount on 6 bottles, any mixed 10% discount on 12 bottles mixed.

the den - Pinotage 2009

A juicy fruit packed smooth wine with a smorgasbord of red and black summer berries, warm spice and toasty wood flavours. The wine has a lovely silky texture and a long smooth finish. Pinotage is the best possible red wine in the world to pair with Mexican dishes such as Fajitas and Mole. The wine likes cumin seeds and smoke ancho chili flavours. Rosalind Pinotage Rose 2010

An intense individual wine brimming with flavours of velvety ripe plum, chocolate and violets with a silky mid palate and a long finish. • Ever felt intimidated when walking into a wine shop and haven't a clue what to ask for. We've probably all been there if we're honest. Well, help is at hand. I can think of no better way of overcoming those fears than by attending one of Barrica Wine's foundation courses. Co-hosts Kevin and Jane really do have a winning formula that makes these events not only extremely interesting and informative, but superbly informal and friendly. What really did it for me was the coming together of like-minded people in such a relaxed atmosphere where I never once felt out of place. It has boosted my confidence no end. An absolute must for both wannabee wine enthusiasts, or for those who just want a better appreciation of the intriguing world of wine.

  Foundation Course.

• After attending the Barrica Wine Foundation courses, I realised there was so much more to wine than I had ever imagined. What next, I heard myself saying. No way was I going to leave it at that. Armed with this newly acquired passion, I again turned to Barrica Wines who introduced me to the concept of 'Country Days', the idea being to experience the different regions and countries of the world. What a revelation ! It all started in Italy (well, the wines did anyway ! ! !) where we were introduced to a fantastic range of grape varieties, several of which I had no idea existed, let alone tasted. Some absolutely stunning wines, many of which now taking pride of place in my cellar (thats a pseudonym for ' my garage' by the way). Since Italy, we have travelled afar to Argentina and Portugal to name but a few. A journey that has already provided some truly memorable moments. Simply amazing.
